What is Vigilare?​

Vigilare is a macOS productivity app that displays your Apple Reminders in a floating window. Unlike the built-in Reminders app, Vigilare keeps your tasks always visible on your desktop, helping you stay focused and never miss important deadlines.

How is Vigilare different from the Apple Reminders app?​

While Apple Reminders requires you to switch contexts to check your tasks, Vigilare keeps them always visible in a floating window. You can:

  • See your tasks while working in other apps
  • Quickly add, edit, or complete tasks without switching windows
  • Customize the window's position and behavior
  • Archive lists to reduce clutter without deleting them

Does Vigilare work offline?​

Yes! Vigilare works completely offline and syncs with your local Apple Reminders database. All changes are stored locally and will sync across your devices through iCloud when you're online.

Is my data safe?​

Absolutely. Vigilare:

  • Stores all data locally on your Mac using Apple's Reminders framework
  • Never sends your data to external servers

Features & Usage​

Can I use Vigilare on multiple Macs?​

Yes! Purchase once, and you can install Vigilare on all your Macs using the same Apple ID. All your reminders sync automatically through iCloud.

Does Vigilare support recurring reminders?​

Yes! Vigilare fully supports all Apple Reminders features, including:

  • Recurring tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly)
  • Custom repeat intervals
  • Due dates and times
  • Priority levels
  • Notes and attachments

Does Vigilare support subtasks?​

Vigilare supports subtasks via Markdown Checklists within the task notes. You can create and manage detailed checklists in the editor. Note: Vigilare does not currently display the native hierarchical subtasks (nested reminders) from Apple Reminders in the main list view.

Can I customize the window appearance?​

Absolutely! Vigilare offers extensive customization:

  • Window Level: Choose between floating (always on top), normal, or desktop level
  • Spaces: Show on all spaces or current space only
  • Position: Drag and position anywhere on your screen
  • Minimize Mode: Collapse to a tiny icon when needed

Can I hide certain lists?​

Yes! Use the list archiving feature in Settings to hide lists you're not actively using. Archived lists and their tasks won't appear in Vigilare, but they remain unchanged in Apple Reminders.

Can I add formatted notes to my reminders?​

Absolutely! Vigilare includes a WYSIWYG Markdown editor for task notes. You can:

  • Format text with bold, italic, and other styles
  • Create bulleted and numbered lists
  • Add links and other rich content
  • All formatting syncs with Apple Reminders

Technical Questions​

What macOS version do I need?​

Vigilare requires macOS 15.0 (Sequoia) or later. This ensures optimal performance and access to the latest Reminders APIs.

Will Vigilare slow down my Mac?​

No. Vigilare is designed to be lightweight and efficient:

  • Minimal memory footprint
  • Low CPU usage even with hundreds of tasks
  • Optimized for battery life on MacBooks

Does Vigilare work with Siri?​

Since Vigilare uses Apple Reminders as its data source, any tasks you create with Siri automatically appear in Vigilare. You can say "Hey Siri, add a reminder..." and it will sync instantly.

Troubleshooting​

My reminders aren't showing up​

Try these steps:

  1. Check permissions: Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Reminders and ensure Vigilare has access
  2. Refresh: Click the refresh button (↻) in the window header
  3. Verify in Apple Reminders: Make sure the tasks exist in the native Reminders app
  4. Restart the app: Quit and relaunch Vigilare

The window disappeared​

Click the Vigilare icon in the Dock to show the window. You can also access settings and other features from the app.

Privacy & Security​

Does Vigilare track my usage?​

No. Vigilare respects your privacy:

  • No analytics or tracking
  • No data collection
  • No third-party services
  • Everything stays on your device

Is Vigilare App Store approved?​

Yes! Vigilare is distributed exclusively through the Mac App Store, which means it has passed Apple's strict security and privacy reviews.
